Here an apron there an apron...

For some reason I love to make APRONS...if you look through some of my earlier post you will see that I made a few to sell at a craft fair. That is where it all started...with a little apron.

I bought this bright red and white patterned fabric at IKEA around Christmas time thinking it would get made for someone. I did get some aprons made, just not out of this fabric. So, the other day I pulled out my sewing machine and went to work. About 3 hours later...give or take an hour or so (...kids...need I say more) this is what I got!

I used a pattern but tweaked it a little, it is a one size fits all and I used a D-ring for the neck band so it adjusts to fit different heights.

The white lace on the bottom was a nice addition to the bottom of this apron along with the red ribbon.

I lined the inside of the apron with white fabric so it is pretty heavy. It was a "quick" project and I feel good about getting it done. If anyone wants it I'll sell it for $15, that includes S&H (US only). First come first serve :) E-mail me at jsrogersfamily@yahoo.com

Edible Arrangements

This was a FUN project I did just yesterday. I made this edible veggie arrangement as a refreshment for a church meeting. I got the idea from someone else at church and then looked up how to make them on-line. Simple as that!













Here is a list of veggies I used:
*carrots
*radishes
*sweet potato
*red pepper
*green onion (to cover the skewers with, also the frilly green below the cauliflower)
*cabbage (cut in half, in the bottom of bowl to stick skewers in)
*turnip (large white and purple flowers)
*broccoli
*cauliflower
The BIG orange flowers are slices of sweet potatoes with bright red radish roses for centers


After slicing the veggies, especially the sweet potato and radishes, I placed them in baggies to keep them from drying out and getting too brittle.
I had to keep the veggie flowers in cold water so they wouldn't wilt while I was getting the other veggies prepped for the arrangement.

This was not that hard, a few suggestions I have are: 1) use a mandolin slicer for your flower petals (sweet potato and turnip) so they are consistently the same width...you want them as thin as you can without them breaking, 2)use a bowl instead of a basket like the video shows...you never know where that basket has been, and 3) be creative with your left over veggies, that is how I came up with the frilly green onion/califlower idea.

Serve these beautiful arrangements with dip and you will have a HIT on your hands...every one last night couldn't stop telling me how cool it looked and wow great it tasted...presentation is half the meal, right?!

I got a feeling...

I think some craftiness is on the horizon. I'm feeling the itch to get out my supplies and make some Valentines. A few friends and I are having a little Valentines get together next week for our kids and we are going to make some cards this coming Monday for them to give to each other at our little party...ohhhh, fun!

Girls Night In...

Some friends of mine came over to my house last night and we had a girls night having fun creating scrapbook pages and cards...these cards are what I ended up with. They were fun to make.

New Pages

These are some pages I have finished this week.

This one with the giant "K" on it was one that Katelynn (my almost 4 year old) put together...with some help from me.

All of these are 8x8 pages so they are not too big but they make for a quick day project. Happy Scrapping :)

A New Year and New Projects

It is 2010 and I am looking forward to some more fun creative projects. To kick off the new year I have decided to start with a project I have been thinking about for a while. This February I will be turning 30 and I want to make a scrapbook of events from my life.

About six months ago when I realized I would soon be 30, I started to "freak out", mostly because I didn't know how to be happy about getting older if I wasn't pleased with where I was. SO, I started to make a few changes...I started going to the gym, I started going to bed earlier (before 1 am), and I have been thinking about all of the things that make me who I am. Exercise was one of the best things I could have done to feel good about myself. I have been a physically fit person in general but after my second child I wasn't motivated to get out and do much about it until I decided I just wasn't feeling good. I feel so much better now! Exercise was the key :)

As I have been thinking about my life and the past 30 years, I started to think of my childhood and what it was like growing up the youngest of 9 children and having parents who were the age of most of my friends grandparents (which I am so grateful for my parents, I wouldn't have it any other way); to the tender years as a teenager and what it was like to loose my father when I was 13; to high school and fun friends who would go hiking, boating, skiing, sledding and lots of other good wholesome fun; and on to college and boys and dating and roommates and lots of self discovery and what I have to offer the world. I also started to look at the 1 1/2 years I spent as an LDS missionary for my church and what amazing experiences I had in California learning Spanish and teaching about Jesus Christ. I also thought about when I meet my husband, our marriage, and the 5 years since then that have been filled with 2 children, college degrees for both of us and countless wonderful memories.

After considering all of that, I realized how thankful I am for being me!

This album is a celebration of the events that have shaped me into who I am and although it is only an 8x8 album I think it will be just right for what I want to do. I have already picked out the pages and embellishments as you can see and all I need to do is add pictures. As I finish pages and layouts I will post them.

Merry Christmas and Happy Crafting!

Christmas is a week away and my tree is up and decorated (thanks to my honey who did it while I was at a meeting!) If you are like me, you are getting those last few gifts for family or friends to finish off the list. I have been making presents for the past few weeks and I think it is now time to put my sewing machine away and just enjoy the magical holiday feeling that comes this time of year. I hope you all enjoy your festivities and have safe travels.
